These days, virtually anything can be solved using a mobile device. It’s a digital age, where technology has to keep up with the demands of a more mobile society.
Over the last 10 years, technology has grown at an exponential rate— where we now have smartphones, tablets, phablets, and laptops that are taken and used everywhere over Wi-Fi networks; bluetooth and NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, adds to the abilities of these devices.
Whether for GPS navigation purposes, creating to-do lists, scheduling appointments, monitoring emails etc., mobile devices have become a necessary component of everyday life. And it doesn’t end there.
Now, our smart devices can digitally do our errands. Why run around town when you can just click a button? Before long, doing your errands online will be commonplace. Believe it or not, the trend is already making its way:
1. Daily Scheduling
We anticipate having devices that come pre-programed with a calendar that syncs with our various online social accounts. When the date for an occasion arrives, a gentle digital chime serves as a reminder.
But now, there are new programs that go above and beyond the calendar function.
Cue automatically connects existing calendars by connecting events to relevant phone numbers, contacts and addresses. By tying account info together, Cue helps keep up of daily obligations, etc. — both at home and at work. Cue’s mission is to turn “…the accounts you depend on, like email, contacts and calendar, into an intelligent snapshot of your day.” With less to keep up with, more important things can be given attention.
-Cue is available for iOS devices on CueUp.com.
Wunderlist helps create a better to-do list for business, shopping or just keeping up with daily life. More than 4 million people using Wunderlist and it continues to grow in popularity.
-Wunderlist is available for free for Android, Windows and Mac devices on wunderlist.com.
2. Outsourcing Chores and Errands
In the words of John Lennon, “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans.” That being true, wouldn’t it be nice to have someone do your chores— freeing up your time for more enjoyable ventures?
What was once wishful thinking has now become a reality— thanks to different online networks that provide the outsourcing of chores and errands.
Current popular outsourcing services include: Mila, TaskRabbit, and Zaarly.
Mila helps people “Get more done, together,” by providing a network of skilled people throughout various communities who are either looking to have services completed or are offering their expertise/services for compensation.
The Mila app is available for both Android and iOS devices at Mila.com.
TaskRabbit is a similar service that is offered to both individuals and businesses. Their attitude is “…to take back ownership of your schedule, access our robust network of service providers…because it’s easily customizable to your life.” The network provides background-checked “Task Rabbits” who can chores ranging from doing laundry to graphic design.
TaskRabbit is available for download on iOS devices at TaskRabbit.com.
Zaarly has a unique perspective. They serve to connect their users to quality goods and services, which are delivered by a network of talented, “go-to” people in their community. It combines the online need to local-appreciative individuals.
The Zaarly app is available for both Android and iOS devices on Zaarly.com.
3. Grocery & Restaurant Food Delivery
After a long work day, or other daily ventures, the last thing that anyone wants to think about is cooking dinner or swinging by the grocery store. Thanks to the wonders of digital technology, food is another item that can be crossed out of to-get lists everywhere.
Restaurant Delivery Services:
There are a variety of food delivery services, but two that stand out are:
- Seamless.com (has over 2 million users from over 12,000 restaurants in 40 cities)
- Delivery.com (has 70 different type of cuisines from listings that span from coast to coast).
Both provide secure home food delivery or carryout services from a variety of restaurants. The apps are free to Android and iOS devices.
Grocery Shopping Delivery Services:
Many local grocery stores have an online to go shopping option. Shoppers can place an order and go to their select store for pick up. It’s the simple way to do grocery shopping by saving time and money. There’s no more combing the isles for that one product among many.
And now there are quite a few large grocery distributors— providing a fast and convenient way to save time, money, and have food home delivered to the front door.
Two big U.S. distributors in this industry are:
- Safeway
- WeGoShop.com
There is a delivery fee for these services, so it’s a tradeoff of convenience for fast, dependable services.
As technology continues to advance, and the demands for mobile information and features continues to expand, we can expect a growing presence of companies and organizations that cater to our everyday needs. Keeping up with a fast-paced life can now be easier— juggle less, stress-less and have time for more.
